Surge Studio enforces a dress code for all dance classes to ensure the overall safety and well-being of our students, as well as maintaining the discipline of proper dance attire. Warm-up clothing such as leg warmers, a light jacket, etc. are acceptable during the warm-up of classes. NO JEANS are allowed for any class.


Youth Dancers

Tiny Volts:

  • Clothing: any appropriate styled dance clothing is acceptable for this class, such as leotards, tights, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops etc.
  • Shoes: This class is done with ballet shoes and sneakers for both boys and girls.
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.

Combo Classes:

  • Ballet/Jazz:
  • Clothing: (Ballet portion) pink tights, black leotard, (skirt optional)
  • Shoes: pink or black ballet shoes
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: black shorts and white t-shirt, and black socks or black ballet shoes
  • Clothing: (Jazz portion) t-shirt, tank top, jazz pants, booty shorts, or leggings are acceptable to put over leotard and tights
  • Shoes: black or tan jazz shoes
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: same attire as ballet, switch into jazz shoes or black socks

Tap/Hip-Hop:

  • Clothing: (Tap portion) any colored leotard, tank top, or t-shirt with tights, leggings, booty shorts
  • Shoes: flat tap shoes
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: t-shirt with shorts, or sweatpants that are not excessively baggy with flat tap shoes
  • (Hip-Hop portion) t-shirt, tank top, sweatpants, leggings, or shorts are acceptable for students to put over leotard and tights
  • Shoes: any kind of sneakers such as converse, Sketchers, Nike, etc. or combat boots (please no dirty sneakers in the studios)
  • FOR BOYS: same attire as tap portion, switch into sneakers

Ballet (and Pointe):

  • Clothing: pink tights, black leotard, (skirt optional)
  • Shoes: soft pink ballet shoes (pre-pointe & pointe shoes for 13-18 year old dancers ONLY)
  • Hair: in a neat ballet bun
  • FOR BOYS: black leggings/tights, dance belt, white t-shirt, and black ballet slippers
  • NO shorts over leotards!

Hip-Hop: NO JEANS, NO SKIRTS, NO CROCS, NO UGGS

  • Clothing: Any appropriate styled clothing such as leggings, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirt, tank top, etc. is acceptable
  • Shoes: any kind of sneakers such as converse, Nike, etc. or combat boots (please no dirty sneakers in the studios)
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail, bun, or a style such as braids where it’s out of the face

Jazz:

  • Clothing: any sort of combination between a colored leotard, unitard, sports bra, tank top, t-shirt, with leggings, tights, booty shorts
  • Shoes: black or tan Jazz shoes (may need character heels depending on age/level/teacher discretion)
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: t-shirt, shorts, jazz pants or sweatpants that are not excessively baggy, and black Jazz shoes

Contemporary:

  • Clothing: any sort of combination between a colored leotard, unitard, sports bra, tank top, t-shirt, with leggings, tights, booty shorts,
  • Shoes: foot undies, turners, or barefoot
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: t-shirt, shorts, jazz pants or sweatpants that are not excessively baggy and socks

Acro:

  • Clothing: any color leotard, unitard, sports bra, with booty shorts, leggings is acceptable. Please no tights, baggy clothing, loose fitting pants, excessive earring,
  • necklaces, watches, or anything that can hinder dancer safety and proper spotting from faculty.
  • Shoes: barefoot
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.
  • FOR BOYS: t-shirt, shorts, jazz pants or sweatpants that are not excessively baggy, and barefoot

Competition Team Conditioning Class:

  • Clothing: Surge Studio leotard/shirt and booty shorts with/without flesh tone tights
  • Shoes: black or tan Jazz shoes, foot undies, turners, or barefoot
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.

Competition Team Rehearsals:

  • Clothing: any sort of combination between a colored leotard, unitard, sports bra, tank top, t-shirt, with leggings, tights, booty shorts,
  • Shoes: appropriate shoes for assigned rehearsal
  • Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun and out of the face.

Adult Dancers

Cardio Hip-Hop:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested.
  • Shoes: any kind of sneakers such as converse, Nike, etc. (please no dirty sneakers in the studios)

Ballet Barre Hip-Hop:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested.
  • Shoes: It is recommended to be barefoot or have socks

Int/Adv. Hip-Hop:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested.
  • Shoes: any kind of sneakers such as converse, Nike, etc. (please no dirty sneakers in the studios)

P.U.M.P.:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as leggings, shorts, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested. Baggy clothing may hinder your movement in this class.
  • Shoes: It is best to wear your favorite heels (not mandatory), or you can wear your sneakers​

Open Level Contemporary:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as leggings, shorts, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested. Baggy clothing may hinder your movement in this class.
  • Shoes: It is best to be barefoot or wear socks​

Twerk ‘N Tone:

  • Clothing: any comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts or tank tops is suggested.
  • Shoes: any kind of sneakers such as converse, Nike, etc. (please no dirty sneakers in the studios)

1-on-1 Pole Fitness:

  • Clothing: preferably booty shorts/biker shorts and tank top or sports bra to have contact with pole
  • Shoes: Barefoot movement

Do’s & Don’ts in Pole Fitness

  • DON’T put on lotion, cream, body oil–it’s dangerous to be slipping on the pole because of poor grip.
  • DO bring water and stay hydrated!
  • DON’T wear jewelry on wrists, fingers, ankles, neck, etc. You don’t want to scratch the pole nor have jewelry catch on clothing or on your skin.
