Students on the Surge Studio Competition Dance Team are provided with the opportunity to participate in dance competitions, varying from Star Systems, OnStage America, Starbound, In10sity, and more! With Surge Studio’s philosophy in the power of positivity, your shining child develops the importance of respect on and off stage, personal and team goal setting to instill progression, and most importantly to have fun dancing! Through the competitive dance experience, your child learns about good sportsmanship and how to apply judges’ feedback to his/her own personal dance journey. Students are also able to meet other young dancers and continuously be inspired by the power of dance!
Because there is a high caliber of performance opportunity with our competition teams, there is an audition process for dancers aged 6-18 (in high school).
Along with performance opportunities, team members learn the ins and outs of the dance industry and experience a photo shoot and receive a head shot and dance shot!
The opportunity to compete and perform is a wonderful experience for a young dancer and part of our policy is commitment to the team. Aside from a Surge Studio Liability Form, we stress the importance of attending rehearsals and include a signed contract from said members and guardians.

Competition Team Member Opportunities
Selected dancers will be placed on the team according to age, level, and may be placed in multiple pieces. We attend a dance convention in the fall and spring. A dance convention can range from 1-3 day(s) for dancers to study multiple styles of classes from prominent teachers and choreographers. Opportunities are plentiful by meeting dancers from studios all over the country! Styles may range from Hip-Hop, Tap, Latin Fusion, Ballet, Improv, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Jazz, and more. These conventions are mandatory for all team members.
To work on personal growth for our dancers, we offer the opportunity for dancers to compete solo pieces. Solos will be learned in one 3-hour rehearsals over the summer. You will receive music, video footage, etc. to practice your solo. Solos will be reviewed 2 weeks prior to attending the competition, and must be clean, well rehearsed/ready to perform. Eligibility to compete solo is based on requirements mentioned. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to compete.
Below are competition and performance dates for our 2018-2019 Surge Studio Competition Dance Team.
Please note, we are not sure of the specific time/day that our dancers are competing until approximately 1 week prior to the competition date. Most group dances are done on Saturdays and Sundays, whereas solos, duets, and trios are done Friday evenings. However, things are subject to change, including competition dates and locations. Please be aware of potential change, but be sure to mark your calendars with these dates.
